I have contributed several times in the past and was also a monthly subscriber of $20 until I closed my credit card account due to a fraudulent transaction. I had been in bench since the beginning of this year ( down but NOT OUT :) ). Fortunately was able to get a permanent job just last month. This means moving to a new place. Therefore I am not in a position to join the advocacy efforts at DC. Wish IV the very best and I am sure our efforts would not go in vain. I am an eternal optimist and so I am confident that our good days are round the corner.:D

Also on another note Senator Lieberman wrote a piece in investors.com which is pro-skilled worker and pro-H1B.

Taken together, these reforms would deliver much-needed relief � and vital human capital � to our innovative industries." .
This is a good find. I'm happy that the senators are fighting to remove the cap for masters students. That would make lot of room for the non-ms students.

I think they have different rules(for themselves) for AP and EAD. As my AP was approved for from the date of expiry....That's ridiculous. Forget abt the 2 year EAD that you didn't get, you also lost 3 months? They probably hired some part time workers for last weekend who might have screwed up. I did some research before and am pretty sure they started issuing documents with a start after expiry of the first one a long time ago. Even on our AP's which were approved, the start date was september 2008. I got them mid -may..

H1-b 5.5 years, I-140 approved 1.5 yrs, I-485 pending almost 2 yrs, priority date just got current (JUL2004). Got laid off and will have January check as last pay check. Spouse is on H1-B, whose job is relatively secure for the short term, whose I-140 approved as well but didn't submit I-485 (PD is about beginning of 2007).
1) EAD/AP expire at the end of March. Should I renew EAD/AP now? The company will not do it, if I apply it on my own will CIS notice this and send me an RFE? If they do send me RFE asking for employment verification letter can I fax back a letter (I believe my company still counts me as an employee now) without letting them know I got laidoff?
2) Regarding H4 application: what's the best way to do it, apply on my own or use an attorney? Do I have enough time to do it in one month on my own?
3) If I find a new job quickly, given that I'm in my 6th year of H1-B, will the new employer be able to transfer my H1-B?
4) If my 485's approved but I don't get the card mailed to me at the time I start my new job (if any) is there a problem?

The more I read this form, the more I become disgruntled with this community! To say that someone from a lower class of visa and not from an "Oversubscribed country" (and I am assuming you mean India) is less skilled and less deserving than someone from a higher class and oversubscribed country is ludicrous to say the least. Each and everyone of us (and I mean "legal immigrants") have our own skill sets and contribute equally to the American society. As long as we are competent at what we do, then we are all SKILLED in our own way. The only real defining difference among the visa classes is the level of education not skill. To suggest one is better based on education alone is arrogance and nothing else!
The U.S. immigration system is not without its flaws and despite the delays and frustrations, it is FAIR! The per country limit is to ensure that citizens of ALL nations have an equal opportunity to immigrate to the U.S. and not just a select few. The only thing that I have found unfair as far as immigration in this country is concerned is the politicians' focused efforts to do something for the "illegal" immigrants at the expense of the "legal" immigrants.
We are all in this together and the insults and innuendos that dominate this forum divide us so let's stop them and focus on the real issues!

How can you say all nations have an equal opportunity to immigrate to the USA. That is patently false and you know it. Now you can defend it and say it is the US right to set its rules the way it wishes, and I can respect that, but to say it is equal opportunity is wrong.

Yes, USCIS IS capable of processing quickly (for example, my own case - but I'd say I was very VERY lucky, rather than an indication of system wide improvements). Remember, my GC was approved whilst my PD was not current, and I am still baffled why this happened. Having talked to many people about it, there is a strong suspicion of "squeaky wheel" helping.
Neah, there were too many approved to be all squeaky wheels. I think I know what they did. On July 1st they ran a simple query and picked up every application that has had no outstanding RFEs and had cleared namecheck, and then assigned them a visa number. If your receipt is from June, you may have cleared namecheck by July 1st, so you got the number. The rest (fingerprint check and approval itself) is just technicality.
I am on the opposite spectrum of the processing - been pending since early 2006 in EB2 ROW. My namecheck cleared late August - guess what, I am still waiting, perhaps until new numbers become available in October (even though I am current). Even though I have been waiting longer, they really finished working on my petition in June of 2006, so everything on the CIS side, including an RFE was done in 4 months. So, I really do not think your case is an exception. Most current approvable petitions that are not stuck in namecheck are approved in 3-4 months. So, in my opinion, quotas are the main culpit. Namecheck is easier to tackle because it gets a lot of bad publicity from delayed naturalization cases.

Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before you get your new card call customer service. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register."

Actually category 2 is not one category. Whatever IV has done in the past is past. We want to know what IV will do in the future with the money collected. And we want to know before we give the money, not after.
Simple e.g. I like Target as a store. That doesn't mean I give Target money and let them give me whatever they want for that money. I want to know before hand what my money is getting me.
Are there any immigration bills that IV supports? What are they? What is IV going to do to get them through? What does IV expect from the lobbyist? Other than the FOIA thing, is there anything else IV is collecting money for? I don't want to see IVs tax statements. I just want a quarterly report of what IV did with the money it collected and what IV will do with the money it collects in the future. A simple 5 line explanation is enough. It has to be something concrete though. "IV will improve the EB immigration process" is not enough. E.g. "IV will contact all senators in support of XYZ". "IV will make sure there is constant media attention to our problem" etc.
So, just because your website ad was deleted from your signature, all of a sudden u have a problem with IV. I started of searching for answers for your questions within the forum and on this website. But then I deleted the information I gathered because I no longer want to spoon feed people like you. In fact I want to make your life more difficult in whatever manner I can. I just want a quarterly report of what IV did with the money it collected and what IV will do with the money it collects in the future. A simple 5 line explanation is enough. It has to be something concrete though. "IV will improve the EB immigration process" is not enough. E.g. "IV will contact all senators in support of XYZ". "IV will make sure there is constant media attention to our problem" etc.
So, just because your website ad was deleted from your signature, all of a sudden u have a problem with IV. I started of searching for answers for your questions within the forum and on this website. But then I deleted the information I gathered because I no longer want to spoon feed people like you. In fact I want to make your life more difficult in whatever manner I can. That will create an incentive for you to pick your sorry a$$ from that couch and do something about your issue. Life has been too easy for you. And now you are in habbit of spoon feeding. I have outsourced my job of making your life difficult to Durbin and Grassley. They will see u in hell, because that's where they are going, with you. But don't you need the original LC approval notice for concurrent filing? It was already included in the I140 filed on July 17. I will just hope and pray that I can receive the receipt notice (or at least receipt number) before August 14~15. Thank you, SVAM77!

How about meeting all our local congressmen and lawmakers in the next few weeks??
Since one of our key issues is educating people about our plight, it would be good to meet some of our local senators/representatives and explain our side to them.
Many of them are equally clueless about the difference between green card backlogs and H1 B visa limits (my local rep for example), legal and illegal immigration etc.
So instead of holding a rally so close to this one, why not have a few more lobby days or meetings with our reps??
Incidentally I like the idea of sending doughnuts/pizzas to the media people specially CNN...:) for obscuring our rally and misrepresenting it as "Amnesty demands"...:rolleyes:
