There is an excellent article in Wall Street Journal by a former Reagan staffer discussing what would Pres. Reagan do today on immigration. For most of the Republicans Pres. Reagan is a hero, an icon. But are they really following Reaganism? Please read this article. I am not sure whether it is OK to copy paste the article. You may need to log in to WSJ.

Reform Immigration For America reports that 500,000 people participated in May Day protests at 80 events around the country. I was attending my 20th law school reunion this weekend in Chicago so took the opportunity to attend the event in the Windy City. The crowd was enthusiastic with lots of signs criticizing SB1070 and calling for immigration reform. And lots of US flags .

Philadelphia-area Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-PA) is coming under fire for supporting an anti-immigration resolution in the House. America's Voice has launched an online campaign to force Murphy to remove his name from the hardline resolution: Americas Voice announced today the beginning of an online advertising campaign to encourage Americans to contact Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-PA) and demand that he remove his name from controversial immigration resolution H.Res. 1026, the so-called BRIDGE Resolution. Murphy has come under fire from religious, progressive, and community leaders for joining with the virulently anti-immigrant Rep. Steve King (R-IA) to co-sponsor the resolution. The BRIDGE Resolution...

Folks,
I filed concurrently I 140 and I 485.
My application has been transferred from California to Nebraska.
I wanted to check if folks have seen any updates on thier cases.
I noticed on the website, for my I 140 status it does not show any date etc, it simply says case transferred to a USCIS office. For some folks it shows on a specific date..XX XXXX we recd your case at this office..
Can we all share our data under this thread for I 140 filing with 485 on July 2.

Some paras from An Opening for Democrats (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/23/AR2007032301585.html), By David S. Broder (http://projects.washingtonpost.com/staff/email/david+s.+broder/), Sunday, March 25, 2007
Six years of Republican control in Washington have taken a toll on the country -- and the GOP is paying the price politically. Instead of the Bush administration ushering in a new era of GOP dominance, as Karl Rove hoped, it has set the stage for a Democratic resurgence.
That turnabout was implicit in the results of the 2006 midterm election, when Democrats took back narrow majorities in the House and Senate and captured the majority of governorships. And it is reinforced by a massive poll released last week by Andrew Kohut and the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press.
The survey of 2,007 people, conducted in December and January, depicts a dramatic shift in Americans' attitudes, opinions and values between 1994, when Republicans took control of Congress, and now. Most of the change has occurred since George Bush took office in 2001.
The poll, which can be found at http://www.people-press.org, is a treasure trove of information about Americans' views of the parties, government, the world scene, religion, the economy, business, labor and a dozen other topics.
But a word of caution is in order. There is little here that suggests voters' opinion of Democrats is much higher than it was when they lost Congress in 1994. It seems doubtful that Democrats can help themselves a great deal just by tearing down an already discredited Republican administration with more investigations such as the current attack on the Justice Department and White House over the firings of eight U.S. attorneys.
At some point, Democrats have to give people something to vote for. People already know what they're against -- the Republicans.

Okay, so Lou Dobbs appears on Bill O'Reilly's show last night. And Dobbs appears the more rational one. It is amazing what a desire to get into politics will do to one's "uncompromising" standards. Watch it here:

General Motors emerged from bankruptcy today and promises it is the beginning of a new age for America's leading car manufacturer. Canadian-born Ray Young, the child of Chinese immigrants, is one of the folks leading GM to what will hopefully be a return to profitability. Young was interviewed by CNBC this morning and rightfully noted that every product GM launches must be a winner if the company is going to succeed. Young also indicated that GM is planning on having an initial public offering of new shares in the next few months in order to repay loans to taxpayers. GM...

Has anyone traveled to India by Virgin Atlantic connecting to Jet Airways at London ?
The ticket is from Virgin Atlantic (through ticket, Jet is their Code Share) .
For baggage rules, Virgin website says --
"Any passengers travelling from India to the USA, (and vice-versa), with Virgin Atlantic for their entire journey, which involves a connecting flight via London Heathrow, will be entitled to an additional bag up to 23kg ."
I sent them an email before ticketing and they replied I am entitled to two piece.
When I contacted them after ticketing , they say I am entitled to one piece. Logic was London - Mumbai is by Jet Airways (but my argument is the ticket shows VS flight number).
Does any one have any experience ?

Hi,
Entered into USA on H1: 06/2001
Change of Status to F1: 12/2001
Change of Status to H1: 10/2004
Labor Filed Substitution: 07/2007
Appeal: 11/2009 in process
I calculated my time in USA excluding time spent outside the country and my 6 years will end in June 2010. When my employer renewed H1 back in 2008 he simply claimed for 3 years and USCIS approved till 03/2011. But I read somewhere online that we have to calculate our time spent in the country and should not go by the date that is on our H1.
1. Does the change of status from H1 to F1 reset the H1 time period or do we have to consider that time period while calculating the 6 years
2. As my application (AAO) is pending I heard I will get a one year extension. The question I have is can I stay on my current H1 till 03/2011 or do I have to renew my H1?
Thanks
