Hi, I am a U.S. Citizen, and my husband is not. I would like to apply for unemployment benefits, but I am worried that it may affect his immigration process. We will soon apply for his green card with the help of a cosponsor. I wanted to make sure that he would not be affected at all by me claiming unemployment benefits. I figure that it wouldn't affect him because of the fact that we will be using a cosponsor, but I didn't want to risk it.

You are only counted against the quota once for a 6 year period , so I believe, she won't come under the quota , although it's getting harder to get H1B extensions every day

Veto Signals Start of a Risky Political Game (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/23/AR2007062300051.html) By Jeffrey H. Birnbaum, June 24, 2007
George W. Bush has been the most accommodating of presidents. He has rarely used his veto pen to kill legislation. Until now.
Last week, Bush vetoed a bill that would have expanded federally funded embryonic stem-cell research. He said scientific advances allow researchers to pursue lifesaving work without destroying human embryos. It was his third veto ever.
But there will soon be more. Lots more, and almost every one of them will have an impact on the markets and business growth.
Bush has attacked the opposition party for "excessive spending" and has vowed to veto many of Congress's 12 appropriations bills, which are on track to exceed his wishes by $23 billion in the next fiscal year.
In response, some Democrats have said they can play that game, too. A faction thinks the last thing they should do is let pass almost any legislative initiative Bush and his party can claim credit for, including the immigration and energy bills Congress is working on.
These confrontations are shortsighted no matter who's to blame. A budget impasse would depress markets and weaken the dollar. Failure of the immigration bill would threaten businesses that hire illegal immigrants with increased sanctions or compel them to hire fewer people, either of which would lead to higher prices. And energy shortages could easily become chronic unless more is done to reduce our reliance on high-price oil.
Shallow political finger-pointing is not an adequate response.

I applied for my EAD and AP extension on AUG 17 2009 and my EAD was expiring on AUG 29th 2009. While my wifes EAD and AP got approved, I had an RFE as I had not sent the recent photographs so I sent that and the receipt date for that was OCT 9 2009.
I continued working and got paid, after speaking to friends I realized, getting paid on a Expired EAD is not right.
I have taken a infopass to discuss this with USCIS to get an update.
One more point I wanted to make was that my payroll company doesn't know about this and doesn't care. But if I bring it up then .they might immediately terminate my employment.
How do I fix this? Please suggest.

Hi,
My Priority date is Jun 2006/EB2 India. After the Aug bulletin I'm now afraid that my priority date might get current next month.
My concern is that I might be getting married in the near future and I don't want to deal with an immigration nightmare for my spouse. At the same time I don't want to rush a decision like getting married based on USCIS priority dates. Is there anyway I could delay my GC adjudication for 3-4 months to get some more time ...
Thanks!

hi gurus, a question.
I am currently out of US but working for same company in Europe
I have approved 140, but waiting for PD to be current - (Jan/03, EB3-I).
I am now a sr manager and seem to be eligible for EB1C (if company agrees).
Option 1)
- continue to stay in Europe and apply for 140 (eb1c)+CP
- while waiting for 140 approval, am i eligible for: EAD and AC21 (after 180 days)
Option 2)
-move to US on L1 visa and apply for 140 (eb1c) + 485
Option 3)
- wait for PD for eb3 application to be current
Hope the above makes sense.
Can you pls suggest the best option & approx 'how much time' it will take for option 1 & 2. (understand option 3 is unpredictable).
Thanks

FOlks,
I am tired of this GC process like u all are. the following is my situation.
Currently on H1B and 140 cleared with company B, no 485 applied missed the boat during the VISA bulletin fiasco(USCIS money making scam)
i have a future GC with COMPANY A, 485 applied, i have EAD/AP also.
i am tired of my current job, too much exploitation, i want to change, so my question is can i just take some other permanent employment using this EAD/AP
My question is as this future GC with COMPANY A and i have never worked for this company A. can i do a AC21 and move on ?
does AC21 apply future GC. ?
Appreciate any thoughts in this matter
Thanks

Think Progress explores the subject. It notes the Miami Herald's interview of a prominent Miami-Dade Republican. Cuban-Americans make up a critical part of the Republican base in Florida and they are increasingly unhappy with the xenophobia expressed by many in their party. GOP lobbyist and fundraiser Ana Navarro, who dropped her support for McCollum after he proposed a law tougher than the controversial immigration bill in Arizona, said McCollums stance lowered his margin of victory in Miami-Dade and kept many Hispanic voters from going to the polls. I think he can blame [immigration], Navarro said. I think if you...

This Skil bill in HR development looks very exciting....may be this will be the our savior bill. Now senate and house both has similar bills and based upon the trend, it looks there is not much resistance to this new bill.

South Korean-born Dr. Jim Yong Kim today assumes the presidency of Dartmouth College and becomes the first Asian American to lead an Ivy League university. The physician, teacher and infectious disease expert told the Dartmouth community: It is deeply humbling for me the child of Korean immigrants from a small town in Iowa to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors and lead Dartmouth College. Here is a clip from today's inauguration:
